FAQs
When and how are characters made?
You can make your character with GM consultation in our private Discord about three (3) weeks before the event. You will be admitted to our Discord, and we will share parameters for character creation with everyone in Discord. As we run multiple live events, we want to prioritize your experience, and we can accomplish that by focusing on your character creation a few weeks before the event.
When will I know my DM and table?
We want to sort players carefully. Additionally, ticket bookings can take many months as players need to make proper vacation arrangements. So we kindly ask for patience up to about one month before the event, at which we will begin event confirmations. According to the Checkout Questionnaire, we will always assign ticket purchasers with their loved ones and friends to the same table for their purchased campaign. We will then assign a talented DM to your table, and our staff will be available on Discord to assist your adventure party about three (3) weeks before the event.
Are Tickets Refundable?
Tickets are non-refundable. However, it is possible to forward tickets for credit toward a future event ticket purchase for another The Game Theatre production. If you are uncertain if you can attend, please hold off booking your spot and contact us at Sales@TheGameTheatre.com if you have any questions. We’re here to help!
How are hotel rooms assigned?
Tickets offer two room types: a double occupancy room (2 people in a room), so you will be paired with your spouse, partner, family, or friend from your adventure party. Or, if you are a single (solo) player, you can purchase a single hotel room in the store.
If you are a group of 3 players, we have 3-person suites available upon request after purchase (email us at Sales@TheGameTheatre.com).
You can choose a 2-night, 3-night, or 4-night hotel stay to meet your travel needs.
Do meals accommodate allergies?
We do our best to accommodate dietary preferences and allergies. We select vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, fish/shellfish-free, and peanut-free options. You can notify us in your store checkout questionnaire if you have allergies. If we fail to provide you with a lunch or dinner that meets your allergen needs, we will immediately order you something via Doordash (options are plentiful). Each morning, breakfast & coffee/tea are provided by the hotel. There is a Starbucks within feet of the hotel lobby.
Is there heat for winter? AC for summer? Are there electrical outlets?
Yes, to the above. This is a state-of-the-art medieval-inspired museum that has been upgraded with modern amenities over the past few decades. You can charge your phone and laptop computer when needed. Most players do not utilize a laptop, but some do (that’s a personal choice).
Are your locations (Castles) ADA-compliant?
Although our locations appear medieval and often draw architectural plans from European castles, our locations are ADA-compliant!
Do I have to bring dice, minis, or anything else?
No, we will provide dice, all gaming materials, maps, and table decor. Of course, if you own a personalized miniature or dice set, you can bring those items. Please keep them safe in your travels and at the event, as they are your personal property, and we are only responsible for our company property.
Are costumes required?
No, many of our photos feature people in costumes; however, costumes are not required for entry. Costumes are optional, and the dress code is casual. Be comfortable, and have fun! If this means cosplay for you, go for it! There will be lots of thematic photo opportunities. If that means a T-shirt and jeans, you are fine.
Are weapons permitted?
Our events prohibit the use of real weapons of any kind. The museum also prohibits long fake, stage, or prop weapons, such as dulled or latex swords, except for us during the event's opening for photo ops and the costume contest. Therefore, the museum only permits attendees to bring long prop or latex weapons, like swords, into the museum for the sole purpose of taking photos and participating in the costume contest. During all other times, you must keep long costume prop weapons outside the museum in a vehicle or securely store them with us (you can retrieve your prop when it's time for photos). Small and short items are ok. This prevents long items (i.e., swords, battle axes, glaves) from accidentally striking or knocking over the museum's precious artifacts with one wrong turn. Even when we are careful while having fun, accidents can happen. We thank you in advance for understanding!
Are non-ticketed players allowed to visit the venue?
No. If you have a non-ticketed spouse, family member, or friend staying in your single-booked hotel room with you for the weekend, they will not be permitted into the museum venue. We must control headcount and foot traffic and ensure our campaign tables are not interrupted. Additionally, the venue patrols its galleries and walkable areas and will not permit non-players to enter. Please understand that our ticket holders have planned a vacation, and we’re responsible for their fun. So only ticket holders are allowed into the venue.

policies
These policies apply to events produced by The Game Theatre, including those that occur live in person or online. Our policies are intended to undergo regular revision and rigorous review by our community.
Photo - Video Policy
If you purchase a ticket to our events, you accept our photo & video policy. It’s straightforward. We have photographers and sometimes a video crew at the events. Sometimes, we have outside media visiting. That means that you may appear in pictures or videos. We’ll be respectful about it but mention it here so there are no misunderstandings later—any participant who attends our events consents to being photographed and featured in a video. Photographs and videos are essential to capture the magical moments at our events and, most importantly, offer our participants memories of their fantastic role-play, friends, and costumes forever.
Consent & Inclusion Policies
The Game Theatre produces various events that involve person-to-person interaction, role-play, character development, and the completion of objectives. The company’s rules focus heavily on safety (physical and emotional), consent and communication, inclusion, and varying levels of immersion. These principles are integral to participants having a safe and enjoyable experience at our events. The Game Theatre team supports these principles throughout the more extensive gaming, live-action role-play (LARP), and interactive theater communities. The Game Theatre’s events and games are intended to be a fun and joyful escape from the “real world," and these inclusive policies help support that mission.
These policies apply to all experiences produced by The Game Theatre, including but not limited to in-person events and games, online forums and groups, and online games (hereinafter all referred to as “Games”). All attendees to Games by The Game Theatre agree and consent to abide by these policies and understand that violating these policies may result in being removed from the Game without a refund by The Game Theatre.

Physical & Mental Safety
Every attendee has the right to feel physically and mentally safe at events run by The Game Theatre, including but not limited to in-person events, games, and online forums/events/games. That means they should find all of The Game Theatre’s games free of:
Physical and mental distress
Danger
Abuse
Harassment (including slurs and deliberate misgendering)
Threats
Unwanted behavior
Violation of physical and personal space
Harmful real-world events and ideologies, discrimination, bias, racism, sexism, knowingly and willfully misgendering others, or any other harmful behavior that affects the welfare of others.
Also, The Game Theatre's Games are free of all real-world harmful content, including but not limited to harmful symbols, images, slogans, sayings, printed or other materials, speech, comments, or any other harmful content communicated verbally or displayed in a tangible form of any kind.
Whether run by The Game Theatre production team or in conjunction with another business or convention, our in-person games follow all local laws, and we require our participants to do the same.
Emotional Safety
The Game Theatre places a priority on emotional safety. Therefore, ‘outside’ real-world ideologies, opinions, stances, feelings, or other real-world aspects such as government, current events, or other outside-world issues should not be a part of your character or your intent before entering the fantasy worlds created by The Game Theatre. Harmful outside real-world aspects are prohibited at our Games for the safety of all players who attend our Games to experience beautiful adventures to escape from anything related to the “real world.” The Game Theatre understands that all human beings have ‘bad days, ' which sometimes can roll over into how they feel about entering a game; however, the Game Theatre prohibits real-world content from being introduced into its games, albeit in person or online. If you, as a player, are having a bad day, feel free to take a break from the Games and reach out to a Game Master for a “safe space.”
Inclusion
The Game Theatre strives to create a welcoming environment for all participants and always tries to select fully accessible venues. The company accepts and values participants and never discriminates based on race, gender, sexual orientation, or other attributes.
Pronouns
You will play a fictional Character that is human/humanoid or a fantasy being, and you are free to choose any fantasy name you want. Frequently, people will refer to you by the name (or nickname) or "title" of your character. However, having one’s pronouns respected (there are many types of pronouns; let’s recognize and respect them) helps players feel safe and trust their fellow participants. Everyone should treat everyone with respect, so players should use their best efforts to refer to other players by their preferred pronouns, and if they use an incorrect pronoun, the speaker should correct themselves. Sometimes incorrect pronouns are used despite good intentions, and this causes negative and hurtful feelings that were not intended. If a person is corrected, they should accept it graciously, use the proper pronoun, and treat their co-players respectfully. The overriding principle is that if you make a mistake and use the wrong pronouns despite your good intentions, the best response is to acknowledge the error, correct it, and continue with gameplay. Over-apologizing exaggerates the mistake and derails the role-play. Thus, a simple “thank you” is preferred, as it is the least anxiety-producing for everyone involved.
Immersion
Though immersion (or feeling as though you truly embody the character) is not always the goal of role-playing, immersion is most achievable when players feel safe and included in a setting that allows for clear communication and consent. At Game Theatre events, immersion is not a rule (the team wants people to be comfortable pursuing what they wish when they wish), but deeper immersion is there to pursue. With that in mind, the company encourages a safe, inclusive, and transparent community and consent culture—because it’s kind, but also to support an environment conducive to immersion and quality interactive gaming.
Safety Concerns
Safety concerns at The Game Theatre Games should be communicated immediately to the Game directors and runners, Christopher Batarlis and Evan Michaels, or Game Masters and Staff. Examples: Game Masters will assist you with environmental dangers, medical issues, harassment, and legal violations. The Game Theatre will make decisions that ensure the safety of players at our games and address the safety of players who attend our Games.
Zero Tolerance Policy
The Game Theatre has a zero-tolerance policy for illegal behavior, violence against other community members, stalking, harassment, and other types of abuse at Games run by The Game Theatre in person or online. Any violation of these policies can result in removal from any Game without a ticket refund.
Responsible Use
In-person Games by The Game Theatre may include alcohol service. We urge our participants to drink responsibly. Alcohol will only be served to people 21 or older in the United States.
Event Objectives
Physical and emotional safety: Creating and supporting a safe environment is paramount. Plus, it’s necessary to facilitate the second objective. Enjoyment: The company wants to present and maintain an environment full of rewarding and enjoyable experiences!Rules, mechanics, and in-game objectives: Within the social adventure that The Game Theatre has created, players can accomplish amazing things if they are safe and having fun.
